Next was Qatar, last but definitely not least. To get there we went through four customs, Barain, Saudi, Saudi again, and finaly Qatar.
[The drive from Bahrain to Doha was less than 450km, but the Qatar border crossing took about 1 1/2 hours - and the Doha traffic was also very heavy. Sunday is the start of the working week in Qatar and so it turned out that we were arriving on the last day of their Eid Al-Adha holiday.]

"On Sunday I went out to this place - it was boring. I played tag and hide-and-seek and hide-and-seek tag. The games were fun."
[We went to the corniche in Doha on Sunday morning, and started from the southern end at the Royal Cafe. This was a cluster of connected cafes and restaurants with some lovely interior gardens, where the boys played their various games. We were told that they were all being closed at the end of the month and demolished, as part of the expansion of Doha airport.]
15 to 20 Dec - Owen
We stayed with some freinds of freinds there and enjoyed some sand slids on singing sand dunes, some freesing deseart expadition and some souq exploring. Then we came home, and arrived just in time for Cristmas.
[We spent most of our time in Doha staying with a lovely family - good friends of a former ANZ colleague of Peter's. They have a 9 year-old daughter and were wonderful hosts, taking us on trips all over Doha and Qatar.]

"On Saturday I went on a drive from Qatar to Riyadh. I had lunch and dinner."
[This was the long drive of our holiday, although it was very easy driving. We had a total of just over 600km of dual carriageway desert highways. The Saudi customs officer at the border was extremely cheery - "Welcome home! Welcome back to the kingdom!"]
