School culture

Our boys are both at the American International School in Riyadh, and have settled in extremely well. They've found it to be a very friendly environment and have quickly made friends.

We've noticed some major differences in the homework levels compared to our school experiences in Australia. Liam has started in Grade 1 and is already bringing home several homework items on most days - Owen's Grade 4 homework has stepped up a level as well. The curriculum content that we've seen has been excellent, and seems to be further ahead academically too.

Today Owen's class were choosing the School Council representative for their class, and we were amazed at how seriously some people were taking this. Three children nominated themselves - one of them had promotional posters, and one had a lollipop for everyone in the class (with a note that asked for your vote!) Perhaps that's a normal approach in some cultures, but for Grade 4?!
