VW obsessions
It gets hard to remember how long an obsession has been going on for, but with Liam at 3 1/4 years I'd be pretty sure he's had a passion for VW Beetles for more than a year now.
Of course when we drive around he's always ready to point out excavators and such, but Beetles and Kombi vans are hardly ever missed by our hawk-eyed lad.
When Owen was this age I remember having to stop (walking or car) to watch any major earthmoving equipment, so it's interesting to see the slightly different focus in our second boy. On the days when we take him to creche we've ended up optimising our route to pass the optimum number of Beetles (usually 2 - 3) and Kombis (3). Not bad for 2km!
Of course plenty of people have helped to foster this passion. It's now more about 9 months since we went to see "Herbie Reloaded" in the cinema - for days Liam (semi-literate then) would earnestly tell anyone that "Herbie crashed the monster truck! Herbie landed on the monster truck, and the wheels came off the monster truck!" Since then we've watched all but one of the Herbie movies, and Liam was given a set of Beetle-themed birthday presents.
